Explanation Supposing Books Eldens Hemlighet (Sofia #1)
This book falls into that murky middle ground between young adult and middle grade. Because really, the subject matter that it deals with (a young girl living in Mozambique whose village is massacred is forced to flee to safety with her mother and siblings. Then she stands on a land mine and ends up a double amputee) is too mature for middle graders. But because the protagonist is about 11, it's a hard book to sell teenagers on.But I digress.
This book is based on a true story and it's translated from Swedish. The writing is fairly simple but still compelling, and Sofia is very definitely a protagonist that you just want to hug because life has dealt her such a shitty hand. Still, she's a precocious child who doesn't let anything stop her. I'm definitely glad I read this, though I'm not sure I'll bother to read the other two books in the trilogy.

I read this once in school. The book swallowed me into its world. I just kept on reading. I always wanted to know what would come next. I read it in Swedish. This is a book everyone could and should read.Not sure if my mom read it to me or if I read it alone, I think I could barely read when I found out about this book, but I loved it so much I dreamt of it. I read other books by Mankell after that, none of the adult stuff though, have to get around that sometime... But Le secret du feu is definitely the one that struck me the most. I cried soooooo much every time I read it ! I'm surprised to see so many bad reviews, saying the writing is poor. Maybe the English translation is not so great ?!

Another great book it puts everything into perspective what a brilliant writer.
This book I really enjoyed reading because I was able to learn about a new culture, and how different people survive. It was a type of history lesson that I did not get bored with. As I was reading I thought of it as such a page turner. Sofia was such a headstrong character it felt as if I were able to relate with her. She took charge in many situations that were difficult and used her skills to overcome difficult situations. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about a different
