Brother Odd (Odd Thomas #3)
The words, spoken in the deep of night by a sleeping child, chill the young man watching over her. For this was a favorite phrase of Stormy Llewellyn, his lost love, and Stormy is dead, gone forever from this world. In the haunted halls of the isolated monastery where he had sought peace, Odd Thomas is stalking spirits of an infinitely darker nature.
Through two New York Times bestselling novels Odd Thomas has established himself as one of the most beloved and unique fictional heroes of our time. Now, wielding all the power and magic of a master storyteller at the pinnacle of his craft, Dean Koontz follows Odd into a singular new world where he hopes to make a fresh beginning—but where he will meet an adversary as old and inexorable as time itself.
St. Bartholomew’s Abbey sits in majestic solitude amid the wild peaks of California’s high Sierra, a haven for children otherwise abandoned, and a sanctuary for those seeking insight. Odd Thomas has come here to learn to live fully again, and among the eccentric monks, their other guests, and the nuns and young students of the attached convent school, he has begun to find his way. The silent spirits of the dead who visited him in his earlier life are mercifully absent, save for the bell-ringing Brother Constantine and Odd’s steady companion, the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
But trouble has a way of finding Odd Thomas, and it slinks back onto his path in the form of the sinister bodachs he has met previously, the black shades who herald death and disaster, and who come late one December night to hover above the abbey’s most precious charges. For Odd is about to face an enemy who eclipses any he has yet encountered, as he embarks on a journey of mystery, wonder, and sheer suspense that surpasses all that has come before.
Third in the Odd Thomas horror-lite series about a young man needing to retreat from his horrific life.Horror-lite? Yeah, what else can you call it when the story is both warm and creepily weird? My TakeWell, I was dying to know what and why Odd sought out a monastery. And Koontz delivered with warmth and homeyness even as violence broke out. It's an odd mixture of science and the metaphysical, not at all what I would expect. But then, neither is Odd.The peace and vitality with which Koontz
I have been thinking for a long time about reading a book about Odd Thomas. Although I thought I would rather start with the first book in this series, but it so happened that I started with this one. And that wasn't a big deal. What surprised me the most in this book is its poetic angle. There are many sophisticated comparisons and poetic descriptions here. I didn't expect it at all. This is not something you usually see in thrillers. I don't think I have read any other book by this author, so I

When I'm working hard on cleaning, organizing, repairing, or any of the mundane chores of life, I like to listen to audio books. I listened to Brother Odd over a three day period, and I found myself smiling and occasionally, unintentionally, pausing to listen instead of work. It was a fun mix of "I see dead people," Catholicism, Quantum smoke and mirrors, and mad scientist egoism. I love the compassion and respect Koontz brings to the perspective of people who are generally dismissed in our
4-4.5 starsThis was a really good addition to the Odd Thomas series. Due to the tragedies that Odd has experienced, he felt a need (at the end of book #2) to get away from all who know him and gain quiet and solitude to heal. The third instalment of Odd and it seems that Koontz is running out of ideas which is a shame as there is a fourth one on the way. Odd is now holed up in a monastery as he cant deal with a normal life any more. However, wouldnt you just know it, evil lurks there as well and Odd is once again pressed into the role of reluctant hero. Its a shame that the character has been somewhat spoiled by some truly awful supporting cast.
