Narrative To Books Because I'm Bella
I'm not sure why this book isn't well known. There's no reviews on here or even any rates, and I seem to be the only one who's heard of it. I've even looked on the internet and there's a couple of websites that mention it but nothing more. This book has been one of my favourites for a long time and it inspired me enough to actually become Christian as there's an element of religion in there. I'm not now but at the time the idea was comforting to me because I can relate to Bella but at the same time, I can't. I mean my dad isn't in jail and my mother isn't mentally ill but I still feel the loneliness that she feels.
One of my favourite characters is called The Dog Whipper, and even though you eventually find out he's a ghost, he helps Bella stay strong throughout the book. What I loved most is the air of mystery surrounding him, because you never quite know what to make of him.
What made me "cringe" a bit was the fact she kept calling herself "hard" or a "hard girl" yet she became more depressed throughout the book, and couldn't handle it. I think it was to make herself feel better and have a bit more confidence in herself (because she kept referring to herself as "fat" and "ugly" (sometimes). She does lose weight later, through crying, some how, but she's slimmer and also older).
Another thing that bothered me a bit when rereading this is the fact that her stealing a boy and everything else that went on inside the book didn't really have a connection. But I can see how her wanting someone to love and something of her own was in relation to her mother not being there for her because she wanted to treat the kid like her mother never treated her.
Her friends were a bad influence and that Maddie wasn't a very likeable character (but there's always someone in the book like that) and the other friend was just adorable (can't remember his name).
The end doesn't land on a very happy event but she is better off.
