I write paranormal and historical romance. I have two grown daughters and have been married since 1980. I'm also a reader, who writes book reviews. But if I can't say something nice...This very enjoyable story takes unusual directions from the start. Our heroine is a young woman of respectable background who has had her life ruined by a wealthy man. She has been banished to a convent. Meanwhile our hero is a man who went to America as a trader but took the losing side in the Civil War and has returned, with only a ship, to take up a family title. He learns that he will relinquish the lands if he does not marry and produce an heir by a certain date, which is only a few monthsI absolutely LOVED the characters in this book. Jack and Abby were two extremely complex and interesting lead characters, mainly due to their difficulty of trusting others because of their respective pasts. Abby thought she had fallen in love with a respected member of society, but it turns out he was engaged, and after repeatedly forcing himself on her Abby ends up pregnant and alone. Jack on the other hand was sent to America as a young boy with his mother because his father assumed Jack wasnt
Lilly Gayle's book Slightly Noble is a classic type of historical romance. There is a reluctant hero, a damsel in distress and suspense. I found Slightly Noble to be well written, the characters are very well fleshed out and how they develop their relationship is beautifully done. I very much enjoyed Abby and Jack's humor. Tho they are mistrustful of each other for a time, they still manage to laugh. I plan to back up and read her first book in this series as soon as I can. I received a copy of
This was a fantastic book! The characters were intriguing and very well developed. I loved Captain Jack. He was so tortured. But still a gentlemen. Abby fell for a slithery nobleman, believing he would marry her, she is naive. She finds help and sanctuary in a convent, but what will she do now? The story is well written, well developed plot and excellent characters make it a book I did not want to put down. I highly recommend this one and all be looking for more from this author!
Really good bookThis book held my attention and kept me engaged from start to finish. I noticed that there were a few years between the first and second book of this series. That being the case I really hope for a third. Maybe Quinton Stanley's story ?

I love this book and it was hard to put it down once l started reading it and l can't wait to read from books from lilly gayle and l loved the jack and Abby story and what Abby what though to save her son and l love that jack and Abby fall in love and l was sad to hear that the nun killed all them mothers and their babies and she tried to kill Abby and will l highly recommend this book to anybody
