ILAN PAPPE (gim. 1954 m. Haifoje) yra Egzeterio universiteto (Jungtinė Karalystė) Socialinių mokslų ir tarptautinių studijų koledžo profesorius ir šiame universitete įkurto Europos Palestinos studijų centro direktorius, vienas iš Egzeterio etnopolitinių studijų centro vadovų. Ilan Pappe yra kelių reikšmingų knygų Artimųjų Rytų tema, įskaitant A History of Modern Palestine, The Modern Middle East, The Israel–Palestine Question, Ten Myths about Israel, autorius. Jis – vienas iš vadinamųjų naujųjų istorikų (tokių kaip Benny Morris, Avi Shlaim, Simha Flapan ir kt.), XX a. 9-ojo dešimtmečio pabaigoje ėmusių ginčyti pagrindinius oficialiosios Izraelio istorijos aspektus.
The history of modern Israel, from its inception, has been perpetually racist and ugly. As historian Ilan Pappe so well shows, Israels leaders, from the early Zionists to the present day, have created a nation that copies Hitlers hideous Nazi Germany. Stealing Palestinian property has been, and still is, considered legal. So is killing them. Books like this need to exist, that subvert the accepted grand narratives and tell of a brutal history. This isn't to say that Pappé's analysis is perfect-- there is a tendency to read every action of the Israeli state as an extension of the 1948 expulsion of the Palestinians-- but it is blunt and forceful, and a scathing indictment of the tendency of the settler-state (something that the Americans, Taiwanese, and Australians are also complicit in) to re-write their histories.

From the 'about Ilan Pappé' :"He blames the creation of Israel for the lack of peace in the Middle East, arguing that Zionism is more dangerous than Islamic militancy, and has called for an international boycott of Israeli academics."Hardly an unbiased author.
There is a bloc of humanity that will never read this book based on the title alone, and there is another bloc, that if they did read it, would immediately find great fault with it, assuming they didn't just write it all off as pure fictional propaganda. I read a lot of non-fiction and histories in particular, and this did not come across to me at any level as inflated hype, but rather as extremely well-researched journalism based on documents from "both sides" of the issues discussed, including
A book that I could not get myself to read in detail. I was looking for a broader overview of the history of the Israeli state and its policy toward Palestine, but this book provides a very detailed look at the very early history. My impressions from reading half and skimming the other half: Pappe presents an important categorization of the policies of the forming Israeli state as "Ethnic Cleansing" and that he provides good comparison to the oppression of Palestinians with the modern view of
A must-read to get a fuller understanding of the Zionist colonization and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian. A journey back in history to the heart of the Zionist project, the massively brutal and systematic massacre and land grabbing of the Palestinians inaugurated on a large scale in 1948.
